Wifflefest 15 Recap

To say that Wifflefest 15 will be memorable is an unstatement. Anything that could happen, did this year at the tournament, which drew a record 18 teams to participate. Let's dig deeper into some details. First, the Semo Sasquatch have done it again, winning their 4th Wifflefest championship. This year felt a little different, as their team was missing a few players. They played the entire tournament with only 5 people, but once they had a chance to hit, they pounded opposition pitchers and were never really challenged in any of their games. It was an impressive display, and could be their best accomplishment to date. Second, Wifflefest 15 took place in the year 2020, so one should expect that something crazy was bound to happen, and happen it did. One the day of the event Wifflefest had a girl bitten by a dog, a car wreck at the entrance, a firework display shooting at people, slow internet which made for mounting frustration. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, and smiles were worn throughout the night as wonderful day came to a close. Third, a big congratulations also goes out to our Sliver Bracket Champion the Sasquatch Hunters, who played very well in the first ever Wifflefest experience.

Fourth, sometimes it’s hard to explain Wifflefest to people who have never been. Next time someone asks you, share this story: Troy Sikes was playing in a Wifflefest 15 pool play game on the Pond field for his KICKS wiffleball team. His team was having fun, but they were on the wrong end of a 15-0 score late in the game. While playing left field, another opposing team smash sailed over his head towards the pond which lays just beyond the fence. Troy turns, runs full speed through the plastic fence, dives into the muddy water, risking life and limp in hopes to make a miraculous catch and salvage a much needed out. Sadly the catch wasn’t meant to be. The result though was that his ❤️ and effort will be talked about for years! That is what it takes to play at Wifflefest! With that we would like to welcome Troy to the Wifflefest Hall of Fame. Finally, as we move to future Wifflefests, we love to dream and imagine how this event can get better for all involved. Going forward, we are beginnging to think about a 5th field being added. We would also like to offer a newly designed t-shirt/hoddie for next year. Possibly one or two food trucks. Perhaps we could add live music and/or more fireworks (which hopefully don't injure people) to the end of the evening. Most importantly, we just want to continue to show love and support to our family, friends, and neighbors in the community and continue to use wiffleball as a way to unite people in a day of fun for all.

Semo Sasquatch claim Wifflefest 14 crown

As the sun began to set and the championship game began to start, a familiar team found its way once again into the final. Two time Wifflefest champions the Semo Sasquatch pounded their way into the final after a successful 3-1 record during pool play. The Sasquatch found just enough offense and had the usual stellar defense to eek out a 3-2 win in the final over the Millenial Mashers. The win gives the Squatch their 3rd Wifflefest championship, which is the most by any team to play in the 14 year history of the event.
